A blessing by Joseph W. Smith, Patriarch, upon the head of Bessie Rogers, daughter of Marion Rogers and Leonora Smith Rogers, born Oct. 8, 1918 at Snowflake, Arizona.
My dear grand-daughter, Bessie, I place my hands upon thy head to impart unto thee a blessing, according to thy desire, which may be a lamp to thy feet, and a guide to thy pathway; and which may be an inspiration and comfort in the mature years of thy life.
I say unto thee, thou art of the seed of Israel, and descended through the loins of Ephraim. And art entitled to the choice blessing which were promised to they father, Abraham and his children after him. If thou wilt be faithful and diligent in keeping the commandments of the Lord, and be obedient to thy parents, and to those who are placed over thee, thou mayest add greatly to the blessing already mentioned. The Lord will hear thy prayers, and thy guardian angel shall have charge concerning thee, so that the obstacles which are placed in thy pathway, and the snares of the evil one, may be removed therefrom.
It is thy privilege to grow to womanhood, and to enjoy every privilege and blessing that is in store for thy sex. Even that of becoming a wife and a mother, and having the privilege of rearing a family.
The Lord will give unto thee the material blessings for thy welfare and for properly providing for those who are dependant upon thee. And by thine industry and economy thou mayest make of thy home a pleasant and happy abode. The blessings of heaven shall follow the labors of thy hand, and upon those who are connected with thee, so that the earth shall yield bounteously to the hand of industry and by careful economy thou mayest have a plentiful supply of the good things of the earth.
Thou mayest become a leader among thine associates and inspire them to greater zeal and energy in the church organizations, where thine influence shall be felt for good.
Cultivate a strong testimony in the divinity of the great plan of life and salvation; and to be able to impart it unto the convincing of those who are not so fortunate in this respect.
I say unto thee, Bessie, the Lord loves thee, and thou shalt be held in remembrance before him. Therefore, be faithful and true in all respects; and never leave anything undone that is for the benefit of thine associates, and thou shalt enjoy the blessings that follow faithful service.
Prepare thy mind by study and research, and cultivate thine hands in the arts and science that belong to womanhood. And with all, study how to relieve those who are in distress and suffering, and be prepared to render first aid assistance, whether it be mental or physical suffering. Prepare also to carry the gospel of redemption to the living and the dead. And thus, by exerting all the powers of thy being, thou mayest render service that shalt be acceptable to our Father in Heaven, and which shall be redowed to thy honor and glory.
I feel to seal these blessings upon thy head, with every good gift and blessing which shall be needful unto thee, and say unto thee that they shall be given unto thee according to thy faithfulness. And I feel to seal thee up against the power of the destroyer in this life, and make thee a promise that thou shalt be permited to come forth in the morning of the first resurrection, to live and to enjoy the blessings of the celestial kingdom throughout eternity. I do this in the authority of the holy Priestood, and in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
